This course introduces the concept of information, limits of error free representation of information signals and the transmission of such signals over a noisy channel. This course enables the students to design and analyze data compression techniques with varying efficiencies as per requirements. It also introduces the concepts behind various theorems proposed by Shannon for efficient data compression and reliable transmission It gives idea on different coding techniques for reliable data transmission. This course thus enables the students to design an optimum decoder for various coding schemes used.
